Scent Altar

Scent altar existed as a closing ceremony after a small choir had performed a lament to girdled pine trees. We sat at the top of a southern pine forest, still and quiet for a moment. Scent altar was an exercise in which visitors received a short reading from myself, followed by an offering of the pine resin, in the form of scent gently rubbed on their skin. The pine resin is well known as a wound healing remedy for the bark of the pine tree as well as human skin. After this, we walked silently out of the forest and back to the island.

The performance was part of the lament to pine trees with Lotta Petronella and choir and part of the How do you know what you know? organized by New performance Turku and CAA Contemporary Art Archipelago curated by Taru Elfving. Project was supported by Kone Foundation.
